Canvas paintings are becoming increasingly popular as a perfect way to preserve your memories. People around the world are welcoming the idea of having a canvas painting hanging around their home for their friends and family members to appreciate. Canvas prints are a perfect way to preserve a family photograph or maybe given as a present. A simple process is undertaken by yourself leaving the hard work to the professionals, all you need to do is upload your favourite print to them and the hard work is up to them. They will edit your photograph, removing any blemishes or red eye that may appear on the finished product, balance out the colours to ensure the highest resolution is achieved, print it onto high quality canvas using the best inks and finally stretch it over a frame designed especially for canvas stretching, making sure you get the most out of your canvas.

Canvas paintings need not always be a personal photograph. Some people may like to use their favourite abstract painting on display in their home or display an advertisement in a shop. It really is a versatile piece of home furnishing that brightens up any room or office.

Canvas paintings are available in many shapes and sizes, the shape and size of your room and the look which you want to create will decipher which canvas will be perfect for you.

The location for the canvas would be a flat wall without any direct sunlight or heat, however this is not always possible and the canvas may get damaged. The specially designed frame allows for re-stretching should problems arise. The frames are made from kiln dried wood, this wood is used as it prevents warping and is the best wood for the job. The main aim is to have a satisfied customer who gets to enjoy many years from their canvas painting.

Canvas in the 21st century

Think of art on canvas, and the image that usually springs to mind is one of a stereotypical painter carefully working his or her brush over a canvas stretched across an easel. Maybe you think of Da Vinci hard at work on the Mona Lisa, or Van Gogh painting landscapes out on some quiet hillside. Your own holiday snaps from last summer probably don’t come quite so readily to your thoughts – although there’s really no reason any more why they shouldn’t.

Printing photos (or technically any pre-existing image if you want to get adventurous) is now a straightforward and affordable process. Technology has advanced to the point where canvas printing is now available for anyone – the process has become so routine and cost-effective that some companies offer to print photos on to modestly-sized canvas for less than £10. For more average-sized art, it’s hard to find prices over the £25-30 range.

Canvas in the 21st century is no longer reserved for the serious professionals of the artistic world. Technology has made it accessible for the masses. Canvas printing offers consumers the chance to decorate their homes with their own photos and prints, rather than commercial art. Family photos in a frame are one thing, but canvas prints tend to bring a much more professional veneer to interior decor. When the ability to customise home decorations to such an extent is so readily available, there will always be a market for it.

Being an Artist is Easy

We all have an inner artist just waiting to get out. How many times have you wished you could draw ‘just like that’ or envied the work of landscape painters? What about looking at a loved one and wishing you could paint a perfect portrait of them and then realising that you simply don’t have the ability? For those of us that weren’t born with the knowledge of how to blend colours or how to get proportions just right, there is a simple and self-satisfactory way to get your ideas onto canvas.

Simply by taking a photo of your favourite place you can have it printed onto canvas for all to admire. Most of us have at least one photograph that we’re particularly proud of having taken and wish to share with our friends or family but quickly put away when the tell-tale yawns of our friends tell us that they’re just not interested. Have the same photo put onto canvas, however, and the curiosity of those same people are invoked. As well as having a fine conversation piece, you can have something much more personal above your mantelpiece than the generic ‘it came with the frame’ piece of art.

Imagine the look on your loved one’s face when you present them with a full-sized canvas portrait of themselves, making the perfect gift for valentine’s day – or any other day for that matter. Canvases are guaranteed to last longer than the photograph counter-parts as well as adding a touch of class to any home.

The Fabric of Life

In the search for unique design and effective advertising, many individuals and businesses alike are now considering the impact of canvas prints. The awakening of photo to canvas as a medium for advertising and home decor has led to websites offering a huge range of bespoke products from pictures to printed T shirts, banners to bags. Enthusiasts claim that printing photographic images on canvas gives a rich texture to the image. There can certainly be no doubt of their effectiveness when used to reinforce a message, set a scene or simply customise a dearly loved photo.

The travel and tourism industry is perhaps one of the more obvious candidates for enticing customers with scenic prints, along with restaurants, pubs and prestigious office buildings: but word has spread. Even Reading football club has succumbed to the trend and in private homes everywhere ordinary family portraits and photographs have been lovingly transferred to canvas.

Canvas prints for walls can be traditionally framed or made in the form of modern, block edged pictures. Websites offer the option of artistic effects including sepia, colour-wash or black and white finishes.

To state the obvious, the fundamental first ingredient is a good photograph, preferably high resolution. Any modern camera will give, even an amateur, a suitable image and, should it be less than perfect, there is always photo-shop to fall back on. Modern digital cameras are good for impromptu, natural looking shots, whilst expensive models can be used with a tripod to capture a more formal looking portrait. Pictures taken on mobile phones have always tended to be low resolution, in the past, resulting in a lack of clarity when stretched. However newer models like the Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot which has an 8.1 mega pixel camera claim to be the perfect vehicle for the creation of anything from cushions, mugs and calendars to high quality wall prints.

If the image is being used as a wall hanging the best standard of print is vital to avoid any cracking on the edges when the canvas is stretched. A widely used printer for this purpose is the Epsom 9800 as it has been designed to produce a scratch resistant finish without colour run.

Once complete canvas wall hangings will, according to independent research, resist fading in normal indoor light for up to 200 years making them something of a legacy. Important, then, that the creator, or indeed the subject, is fond of the finished product. Like it or not canvas prints will be preserved for posterity but at least, unlike works of art, they can be replaced relatively cheaply. Most household pictures are highly unlikely to sell for a fortune in any future auction but advocates of photo to canvas will point out that photography is art and art is personal.

Viewing treasured memories on a computer screen isn’t quite the same as seeing your favourite images elegantly framed on the wall of your home. Even the piles of photos stashed away in albums or boxes aren’t able to be appreciated in the way we’d like.

That could all change however, with the advent of canvas photo technology. By taking your own pictures using a digital camera and having them printed onto canvas, your photos become a work of art.

Practically anything can be printed onto canvas, so you’re only limited by your imagination. It could be a beautiful family portrait, a memento of a holiday or other special occasion, or your favourite landscape.

Chances are, in the past you have gone to the trouble of printing photos and presenting them in an album, only to find that years later they have lost their sparkle. If you’ve ever found yourself admiring antique artworks in a gallery and wondered how they’ve managed to survive, part of the secret is in the framing.

By stretching canvas across a sturdy frame, it can be adjusted in response to environmental conditions like heat and humidity. Not only will your artwork look great, but it will stand the test of time.

So start rethinking the old yellowing photo album. There are new and lasting ways to enjoy the pictures you take, and show family and visitors the artist within.

How are canvas prints made?

In its simplest sense, a canvas print is a way of displaying a chosen image using canvas as the media for the image to be printed onto. Canvas is a display media more traditionally associated with artists than printers, the first examples of canvas painting date back to the 15th Century and it is still used today.

Canvas printing itself has been around for many decades, we notice it more as it has become a lot more accessible than it used to be, canvas prints can be found in most modern buildings as it offers an affordable and attractive way to display images. Printing on canvas allows us to display an image in a unique and interesting way which may previously have been confined to a simple, two dimensional print.

Generally, the image is sent to a canvas printing company in jpeg format (although other formats are usually acceptable). The image is then closely examined for any imperfections (red-eye being a good example), these imperfections are removed and then the image is cropped to the required size. The cropped image is then printed on to artist grade canvas using large format printers such as the Epson Stylus Pro 9800. Once printed, the canvas is then stretched onto a wooden frame until it becomes taught; the canvas can then be hung as desired.
